Church Was Good

So, yesterday was unique for sure. We headed over to Seattle to attend Quest Church. I'm so glad we did. I heard one of the best messages in a long time. I just resonate with how they attempt to do life and church.

During the message, Necole and I felt the burden of church planting. Their is truly a need to plant churches in Seattle. Somehow, we have to dedicate the rest of our lives trying to accomplish this task. A few thoughts from he message:

  • More dogs than kids in Seattle.

  • Seattle is the least churched city in America. Something like 7% of Seattlites (sp?) attend a Jesus believing church.

  • Their are not enough churches being planted to keep us with the population growth.

  • Tons of churches are closing down and not enough are being planted.

Sometimes I pray and I ask God to just let me be happy, to work and make a living and attend church and help in some sort a of way. You know, maybe give some cash, help set-up and all that. I mean, that is missional, it's Godly. But that is not going to happen. When you are called, you just have to accept the burden and responsibility that comes with that calling. I need patience. BTW, did I tell you I hate being patient :)

As always, we did have one major set back. We found out that we cannot move into our apartment till July 8th. We have to move out of our current place on June 12. Therefore, we need a place to crash for 3 weeks.

If you are local, and know anyone who needs some house sitting anywhere from June 1st to July 7th let us know. That could be a win-win if you know what I mean :)

We need to get on the "other-side-of-the-peninsula" or else, we may got NUTS.

Peace & Love

I'm not sure why I feel compelled to write this but...

might I put a location in your mind? the Kingsgate area in Kirkland. It is a diverse area, huge residential areas, few churches (all traditional), and growing rapidly with economic expansion...

It has low-income to upper-middle-class families with no real central

and finishing my post...

no central community area (but will after the Totem Lake Mall expansion). And there are at least a couple of us up here that are looking for something different in our faith that involves reaching out to our community in unique ways...

one thing that hit me while you were writing was the great possibility that the town of Seattle is "over" the whole church thing. at least over what they've experienced to be church - a multi-purpose building, non-aesthetic/non-sensory, overly happy-go-lucky and showy, sermon-heavy, etc.

what if you and the other brains in Seattle went old school like the disciples? infiltrated the city underground-style. get up with your colleagues and re-think it. you might slip under the radar of stats like the ones you have listed as being a "church." but that doesn't mean you can't act and move like The Church....

Chris,
That's cool to hear about. Sounds kind of divine appointmentish. There's plenty of dreaming to be done about churches in the area, so consider me a like-minded partner in dreaming...

Tracie & I were talking to a friend of ours last night about you guys and Ken and church planting (she's a KEY figure in my church which is a year+ old church plant) and the first thing she asked was if you were going to plant a church in Seattle. It's rocky soil out here, but even rocky soil can be cleared and planted.
